Bbbb...bird, bird, bird

Muriwai Beach is home to a colony of Gannet birds. These amazing shorebirds migrate to Australia and then come back to New Zealand to breed. They mate for life and focus on one chick at a time "because they are demanding and vulnerable" - that sounds familiar. The colony here started with 50 pairs and is now home to over 1000 pairs. It is fascinating to watch the couples preen and the adults feed the young.

Conversation of the Day
Jeff is throwing the frisbee on the beach.
Jeff: OK, the next person to drop the frisbee has to take off an article of clothing.
Natalie: Yeah, coool.
Kate: No, we are not playing strip frisbee! Why are you teaching her this game?
Kate drops frisbee . . .
